How Suboxone Works
Suboxone is a brand name of a buprenorphine/naloxone medication. Other brand names include Sublocade, Brixadi, and Subutex. It is an FDA-approved medication for the treatment of opioid use disorder that curbs cravings while providing relief from painful or uncomfortable opioid withdrawal symptoms. Along with counseling and peer support, Suboxone can promote lasting recovery.
Initial Induction
– Manage Withdrawal –
At the start of treatment, your provider will monitor any withdrawal symptoms you may be experiencing and prescribe Suboxone as needed. They’ll review your medical information to ensure that you’re receiving Suboxone at the right dosage.
Outpatient Treatment
– Heal –
While taking Suboxone as your provider prescribes, you’ll also engage in group therapy and one-on-one counseling sessions to help you work through the underlying causes of opioid use disorder.
Medical Taper
– Recover –
It’s crucial to find the right approach for continued recovery. You’ll work with your provider to determine if a medical taper or long-term Suboxone use is the right fit for you.
