When Nate talks about what he has gained through recovery, he starts with something deeply personal: peace of mind.

“Like that is huge with me,” he says.

Nate describes himself as driven and hard on himself. Learning to accept support, make changes in his daily life, and stay engaged in treatment has helped him find more stability. Through his recovery at BrightView, he has been rebuilding connections with family and becoming someone he feels proud of.

Learning to Accept Support

For Nate, building a foundation for recovery meant becoming willing to listen and accept help.

“If you’re not open to take suggestions and if you’re going to keep your mind closed, you’re just hurting yourself,” he says.

That willingness became an important part of his experience at BrightView. He describes learning to trust the treatment process, take suggestions, attend meetings, and spend less time isolated with his thoughts.

“Get yourself out there,” he says.

For Nate, staying connected helped interrupt the pattern of being alone and letting his thoughts snowball. Recovery meant showing up and giving himself the opportunity to approach things differently.

Seeing Progress Through Everyday Choices

When asked when he began to recognize that treatment was working, Nate points to the effort he was making week after week.

Coming to appointments consistently helped him see that his commitment was making a difference, both in treatment and at home.

Progress also meant changing his surroundings. Nate recognized that some relationships and familiar environments could pull him back toward substance use. Creating distance and maintaining those boundaries became part of protecting his recovery.

“Sometimes it’s the people and the places that just keep bringing back around,” he says.

Those choices were not always easy. But continuing to show up, follow through, and make changes helped Nate build confidence in the direction his life was taking.

Reconnecting With Family

Family is a powerful source of motivation for Nate.

He describes reconnecting with his parents, sisters, nieces, and nephews. His family shares life on a large farm, with four houses and animals ranging from horses and goats to ducks and chickens.

When asked what it feels like to have their support, his answer is immediate.

“Amazing. It’s what drives me every day.”

Nate is also working to strengthen his relationship with his son. He describes that process as gradual and says he is willing to answer his son’s questions honestly.

These relationships are an important part of what Nate is building through recovery. Alongside peace of mind, he is finding opportunities to be more connected to the people who matter to him.

Looking Ahead With Hope

Nate knows that someone passing an addiction treatment center may not understand what happens inside. When asked what he would want people to know about BrightView, he speaks about the impact treatment has had on his own life.

“I would want them to know that they helped me save my life,” he says. “That’s the truth.”

Today, Nate describes his future as bright. He feels happy with who he is becoming and grateful for the support he has received along the way.

His advice to someone considering that first step reflects what has mattered in his own recovery: seek support, listen, and be willing to take suggestions.

And his message to the team that has supported him is simple:

“Thank you for everything.”
