ABOUT OUR MAT CLINICS IN ARIZONA

Arizona is facing a clear need for effective, evidence-based treatment for opioid use disorder. BrightView is helping to fight this crisis through an alternative to traditional inpatient drug treatment programs. Our personalized approach to substance use disorder treatment involves medication assisted treatment (MAT), also known as medication for addiction treatment. The medications we prescribe as part of our treatment plans relieve withdrawal symptoms and curb cravings, helping those with treatment-resistant opioid addiction focus on addressing the underlying causes of their substance use disorder through counseling.

Lasting, sustainable recovery is possible. If you or someone you care about is struggling with an opioid use disorder, reach out to BrightView today to learn about our medication assisted treatment clinics in Arizona.

HOW DOES MEDICATION ASSISTED TREATMENT WORK?

Addiction forms when changes in the brain’s chemistry result in compulsion and loss of control over drug use. Addictive substances such as opioids act on the brain’s reward system to release feel-good chemicals like dopamine. They release large amounts of dopamine, which teaches the brain to seek out the substance again and creates cravings.

Over time, the brain begins to associate the drug with pleasure, and the person needs more of the substance to feel the same effects. Overcoming opioid use disorder involves reprogramming the brain in order to break these habits.

Medications that are used in MAT help to normalize the brain’s chemistry and take away the cravings and compulsions associated with addiction. They work by binding to the same receptors in the brain as opioids, but they don’t produce the high that opioids do.

BENEFITS OF MEDICATION ASSISTED TREATMENT

Why is medication assisted treatment such an integral part of our treatment programs? It’s a highly effective form of treatment that comes with a number of benefits, including:

Reduced risk of relapse – One of the most significant benefits of MAT is that it significantly reduces the risk of relapse.

Improved retention in treatment – MAT has also been shown to improve retention rates in treatment. This is because people who are receiving medication assisted treatment are less likely to feel the need to leave treatment early in order to get their fix.

Better outcomes – Overall, people who receive medication assisted treatment have better outcomes than those who don’t.

Relief from withdrawal symptoms – One of the main reasons people choose to quit treatment is because they can’t handle the withdrawal symptoms. With medication assisted treatment, however, withdrawal symptoms are much less severe.

Addiction can impact every area of your life. Whether you’ve tried treatment in the past or are getting help for the first time, we’re here to support you on your journey to recovery with treatment programs based on research and decades of experience.

MEDICATIONS WE USE IN OUR TREATMENT PROGRAMS

Suboxone

Suboxone is a brand name of a buprenorphine/naloxone medication. Other brand names include Sublocade, Brixadi, and Subutex. Buprenorphine is a partial opioid agonist, which means it activates the opioid receptors in the brain, but to a much lesser degree than other opioids. Naloxone is an antagonist, which means it blocks the effects of opioids.

Suboxone is used to ease withdrawal symptoms and cravings while also preventing the person from feeling high if they use opioids. It’s a safe and effective medication that’s been shown to help people stay in treatment and avoid relapse.

Vivitrol

Vivitrol is an extended-release injectable formulation of naltrexone, which is an opioid antagonist. Vivitrol works by blocking the effects of opioids or alcohol, so it’s used to prevent relapse in people who are abstinent from those substances.

Vivitrol is a once-monthly injection that’s been shown to be effective in preventing relapse. It’s a safe and well-tolerated medication with few side effects.
