The Brightview Health Somerset Addiction Treatment Center held its 15th annual Community Recovery Rally.
Kristie Gossett, the rally’s organizer, started the community gathering 15 years ago when there was a need for recovery resources in Somerset and across Kentucky.
“We’re here to love on people and to help people when they need it,” Gossett said.
Whether it’s drugs or alcohol, overcoming that struggle is hard, but ask people who have been though it and they will tell the journey is worth it.
BrightView Health is an outpatient addiction treatment center that helps patients achieve recovery from substance and alcohol use disorders.
A new drug addiction center has opened in Middletown and another treatment center that opened two years ago has been licensed to administer methadone that treats narcotic drug addiction.
BrightView Health addiction treatment center opened last month at 4421 Roosevelt Blvd. BrightView is the largest addiction treatment provider in Ohio with nearly 11,000 Ohioans under care across 37 centers in the state, said Jean Dugger, operations director.
The holidays are often an exciting time spent with family and friends, but for those battling addiction or on the road to recovery, the celebrations can be challenging.
Tom Fraticelli, Director of Outreach for Brightview Health treatment facility, says nearly half of all adults know someone who is suffering with a substance use disorder.
"I spent a really long time in a really dark place in a bottle and I had made the decision with my wife that I was going to go to detox," the 51-year-old Aurora resident said. "I was afraid of going through it without being medically supervised because I was under the influence of alcohol for so long"
Crawford marked three months of sobriety on Dec. 11, a time of year when many dealing with substance addiction issues, whether alcohol or drugs, might be starting to feel additional stress.
Holidays are a time for social and family gatherings. Though this is a time to celebrate with family and friends, for people struggling with addiction, this time of the year is one of the most challenging.
“It is probably the biggest time of the year for people to experience a relapse,” said Lee Wright, community outreach manager for Cape Cod at BrightView Hyannis Addiction Treatment Center. “There's so much exposure and triggers during the holidays, which makes it even easier to relapse.”
Brightview Addiction Treatment Center hosted a mobile dentistry clinic in Henderson for Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Medicaid members Tuesday.
The event is a part of Anthem Medicaid’s “Brighter Smiles, Brighter Futures” campaign.
“Transportation is always a barrier in our community and in surrounding communities,” said Brightview community outreach manager, Karen Tapp. “So being able to have it in one spot, allows people to make it a lot easier to find out about resources and take advantage of those resources.”
BrightView is celebrating one year of providing addiction treatment in Martinsville.
Thursday morning, they gave out awards to the community partners who play a role in the fight against substance abuse. They also recognized the patients who are committed to recovery.
“It reached a point where I was sick and tired of being sick and tired,” said Maurice Roberts, Brightview patient. “Once I had reached that point, I knew I had to make a change. Brightview has helped to give me the tools I need to go from day to day and stay away from drugs.”
After serving over 300 patients in the communities of Elyria and Lorain, Brightview Clinic is celebrating its first year.
Brightview Clinic helped their patients with about 2400 hours of medical treatment and about 1500 in counseling and therapy.
Addiction Recovery in Kentucky is being supported through government funding from the CAREER Act or The Comprehensive Addiction Recovery through Effective Employment and Reentry.
The bill was introduced for reauthorization in June after it was originally filed in in 2018. U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell and Congressman Andy Barr, worked to pass this bill because of the issues the Commonwealth has with substance use disorders.
BrightView has opened its 17th Kentucky location in Pikeville.
BrightView works with patients to come up with the best plan for recovering from substance use disorders. Patients are required to set up their next appointment before leaving.
The FDA has approved Narcan for over the counter sales. You can now buy it without a prescription and don’t have to ask a pharmacist for it. Sari Cason with Brightview Health said she was excited to hear the news, calling the impact life-saving.
In Massachusetts, an animal tranquilizer called xylazine, often known as “tranq,” is making its way into the drug supply system.
Community health organizations and law enforcement have been coming together in recent months in an effort to help prevent these deaths. A key part of that effort is increased access and availability of naloxone, a medication that can reverse overdoses involving heroin, fentanyl, and other opioids when given in time.
“Unless you’ve used drugs and been in a situation, you don’t understand what it’s like,” Jessica Holdren said.
Jessica found herself in the middle of addiction, and turned to BrightView Health in Lynchburg for help.
